Mangalore University welcomes foreign nationals who seek admission to its various post-graduate programmes. Applications of Foreign Nationals nominated by the Government of India under scholarship scheme and self-financing foreign nationals shall be entertained for all the programmes of the University.
|Postgraduate Courses||The applicants should have at least 45% marks in their qualifying exams (Graduation) to be eligible for admission to post-graduate programmes in Mangalore University.|
|Ph.D||Pass in two years Masters Degree in the qualifying subject or an allied subject where inter- disciplinary research is permitted. For being considered for admission to a Ph.D programme, a candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% in the Master’s degree examination|
Note: The minimum prescribed qualifications for different courses are shown above. The University may from time to time lay down additional qualifications as per its rules.
International students must possess a valid STUDENT VISA in order to pursue a UG / PG / Diploma./ Certificate Course. For enrollment into a Ph.D programme, a RESEARCH VISA must be procured. Visa regulations do not permit those on tourist or X Visas to pursue any academic programmes.
Foreign Nationals can seek admission to various Post-graduate programmes of Mangalore University under the following categories:
- Self-financing Students (Full Time Programme)
- Cultural Exchange Fellowship Programmes (Govt. Of India)
- Visiting Students applying under MoU
- Foreign Nationals seeking admission in any one of the aforesaid categories will have to satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the programmes as prescribed by the University.
Admission Procedure(i) For post-graduate programmes (M.A./M.Sc/M.Com/M.B.A) under Self-financing category:
Foreign students, who wish to join under Self-financing Category, are required to submit their applications to the Director, International Study Centre, Mangalore University. These applications are scrutinized by the respective department of Mangalore University. The respective student / Embassy (with a copy to the student concerned) will be informed about the decision of the University. However, in case of students from countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the application MUST be forwarded through their respective Embassies /High Commissions.
(ii) Foreign Students with ICCR Scholarship (Government of India):
Candidates desirous of admission under this Fellowship Programme are required to apply through theIndian High Commission/Embassy as the case may be, in their respective countries. They will send the application to Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India and the ICCR will forward the application/s to Mangalore University for consideration. In case the applicant is found suitable for admission, an admission offer letter will be sent to her/him through Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi.
(iii) Visiting students (Under MoU)
Foreign Nationals registered for a degree in a recognised University who are officially sponsored by that University to carry out Course Work / Research or to avail laboratory or other facilities at Mangalore University for a period of not exceeding two semesters can be accepted as visiting students under the MoU or otherwise. Admission of foreign Nationals under the MoU will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions spelt out in the MoU agreed to between Mangalore University and the Country/ University/Institution of the concerned students.
It may be noted that the student who is finally admitted to the University must have valid passport clearly showing a student Visa for the post-graduate Programmes and Research Visa for Ph.D. Programme/Provisional student Visa for visiting students. In case of students from the restricted countries, the student / respective Embassy should submit the clearance and No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Human Resource Development before joining the University.
Minimum Educational QualificationsThe applicants should have at least 45% marks in their qualifying exams (Graduation) to be eligible for admission to post-graduate programmes in Mangalore University.

The application should be accompanied with application fees of Rs. 3300 INR. Payable to The Finance Officer, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri- 574 199, India.
The applications of scholarship-holding Foreign Nationals (under various schemes) should be routed through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations / Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Education), Govt. of India, New Delhi. The antecedents of the candidate will be verified by the forwarding Agencies/Ministry.
On the basis of the letters of admission issued by this University, applicants should contact Indian Embassy/High Commission in their respective countries for obtaining Student/ Research Visa for study at Mangalore University. Any foreign national candidate having visa of any other type will be refused admission at Mangalore University. Fees are payable at the time of admission, failing which, they will not be registered for the programme.
Candidates should ensure that they fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements for the course they wish to join.
Documents required at the time of submitting the application
- Valid foreign passport.
At the time of admission
- Clearance letter from Embassy/ High Commission / ICCR /University.
- NOC from Ministry of Human Resource Development (wherever relevant).
- Valid Residential permit in India granted for studies or a Student Visa for the prescribed duration of the concerned programme.
The Degrees/Certificates of the candidates must have been recognized and approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) / Commonwealth Universities / International Association of Universities (IAU) as equivalent to the corresponding Indian Degrees/ Certificates.
All the eligible foreign nationals are required to fill up the Registration Form prescribed by the University at the time of admission.
The inter-se merit among the applicants of various foreign nationals will be decided by the University, which shall be deemed as final.
The Academic Rules & Regulations applicable to Indian students with regard to eligibility and evaluation are applicable to Foreign Students also; as outlined in the brochures.
Candidates admitted to any Course/programme in Mangalore University shall not be eligible to pursue simultaneously any other full-time Course in this or in any other University/Institution. If the applicant has passed the qualifying examination where grades are awarded and where the Grade Sheet does not mention the equivalent percentage of marks from grade points, the candidate should submit such a Certificate of Conversion from the concerned Institution mentioning either the converted percentage, or the formula for the actual conversion of grade point average to percentage of marks.
Where the Grade Sheet itself mentions the equivalent percentage of marks from grade points, or the formula for such conversion, the candidate should get both sides of the Degree/Grade Sheet photocopied and attested, showing the equivalent percentage of marks/ conversion formula and enclose them with the Application Form.

- Attested copies of the syllabi and curricula of the qualifying degree adopted in Colleges/Universities attended with full details. Without this information, the application /s will not be considered.
- Certificate of conversion (Grade Point- to- Percentage).
- Two Letters of Recommendation to be enclosed in sealed envelopes certifying the candidate's merit and character.
- Three copies of bio-resume in the prescribed form with passport size photos.
- Certification of English language proficiency.
