Course Intake and Details

The Department of Business Administration at Mangalore University was founded in 1981 and 33 batches have passed out from its portal. Top priority is accorded here towards the creation of management graduates with strong fundamentals and firm basics of management. The curriculum that is followed has a balanced blend of practical and theory. Along with the prescribed syllabus, industrial visits, seminars, guest lectures, case studies and mini-projects are undertaken on a regular basis. Apart from the regular full time four semesters M.B.A, M.B.A (Tourism Administration) and M.B.A (International Business) programme, the department also offers Ph.D. programme. The course offers three specializations, i.e. Marketing Management, Financial Management and Human Resource Management. The Department has been accorded recognition from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

M.B.A. 60 Two Years (Four Semesters)
  1. Eligibility for admission to Master of Business Administration shall be a pass in Bachelor Degree with not less than 45% in respect of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Category-I and not less than 50% of the aggregate including language subjects in all the years of course of study for others. 2) Mode of Selection: Admissions shall be on the basis of merit. Merit shall be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in the admission test. Degree marks may be considered for eligibility and for determining the merit in cases where the entrance marks are equal.
  2. Admission to Master of Business Administration course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor Degree examination with not less than fifty Percent of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-I, the aggregate percentage of marks of all the years of the qualifying examinations shall not be less than forty-five percent. However, only the Karnataka Candidates* are eligible to apply for Government seats. For Management seat category all the students are eligible. Admission is made based on the entrance test conducted by the Post-graduate Central Entrance Test (PGCET) Committee (Currently being conducted by the Karnataka Examiniations Authority (KEA), Bangalore  (Website:  kea.kar.nic.in)). The advertisement for admission normally appears in June and is published in the KEA website (Website: kea.kar.nic.in). However, the notification can also be made earlier than this month. All those who appear for test and satisfy the eligibility criteria are eligible to attend the centralised state level counselling for allotment of seats. Normally there will be two counselling centers, one at Bangalore and the other one to be announced every year. The counselling may also be done through the online by asking the candidates to choose the institutes of their choice and asking them to make choice entry in the website.  This is announced by the KEA at the time of admission notification.  The candidates can choose the department by reading the names of the institutes/departments mentioned in the information brochure of the PGCET. The Department name is:  The Department of Business Administration, Mangalore University.  Or MBA Department, Mangalore University.  To know the name of the department, read all the names properly and choose.  You can contact:  0824-2287637 (O)   for any clarification.  The fee varies every year depending upon the fee structure announced by the Karnataka Government and Mangalore University.  Apart from the fee paid in the counselling centre, the candidates have to pay university fee like registration, lab etc. at the time of admission The candidates seeking reservations have to produce relevant certificates issued by the competent authority in Karnataka.
M.B.A. (Tourism & Travel Management) 19(Merit) 12(Patially Self Financing) Two Years (Four Semesters)
  1. Eligibility for admission to Master of Business Administration (Tourism Administration) shall be a pass in any bachelors degree examination of Mangalore University or other University considered as equivalent thereto with not less than 40% in respect of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and category- I candidates and not less than 45% of the aggregate including language subjects in all the years of course of study for others.
  2. Mode of Selection: Admission shall be on the basis of merit. Merit shall be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and marks obtained in the admission test in the ratio of 50:50.
M.B.A. (International Business) 32 (Partially Self Financing) Two Years (Four Semesters) Eligibility for admission to Master of Business Administration (International Business) shall be a pass in any bachelors degree with not less than 45% in respect of Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes and not less than 50% of the aggregate including language subjects in all the years of course of study for others. 2) Mode of Selection: Admission shall be on the basis of merit. Merit shall be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and marks obtained in the admission test in the ratio of 50:50.
Ph.D. As per University Regulation Minimum Three/four Years and maximum five/six years for full-time and part-time research respectively. Second class Master's degree (with not less than 55% Marks) in the relevant subject from Mangalore University or any other University recognized by Mangalore University as equivalent.

*(i) "Karnataka Candidate" means a student who has studied in one or more Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of seven academic years (commencing from 1st Standard upto qualifying examination either continuously or in broken period) as on the date of advertisement and has studied, appeared and passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate or 10th Standard Examination or the Second Pre-University Course Examination or 12th Standard Examination in a Government or Government recognised Educational Institution located in the State of Karnataka.

Explanation - In respect of candidates who have directly appeared for SSLC or PUC studied in Open School, the period of seven years study shall not be insisted. However, such persons shall produce domicile certificate for having studied as such for seven years.

Provided that in the case of a candidate who takes more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.

(ii) "Karnataka Candidate" also means and includes a candidate who has studied and passed the qualifying examination within the State of Karnataka from an Educational Institution run or recognised by the State Government and either of his parents should have studied in an Educational Institution run or recognised by the State Government and located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years.

The candidates are required to produce the relevant certificates to prove that they are Karnataka Students.
