Magnum 2015 to test management, commerce students with skills

Department of Commerce, Mangalore University is organizing Magnum 2015, a two-day state post-graduate festival for students of commerce and management streams at the Mangala auditorium of the university from March 10. Around 20 teams from across the state are expected to participate in the event and 15-teams have already confirmed their participation, noted A Raghurama, chairman, department of commerce on Saturday.

The six competitions that will be held at Magnum will test the ability of students to translate their learning in to practice, he said. The competitions include - jungle jingle (Mad Ads); head Hunting (Human resources); Wizard; King of the Jungle (Best manager); Hunter (marketing); and Macaques (Quiz). The competitions is not only meant to entertain the students, but also aim at the overall academic development and organizational skills of students.

The department has in the past helped economically backward students pay part of their fees with surplus funds left over after organizing the event and also helped buy books for the department library, he said. Last year, the surplus funds helped pay fees of 10 such students with each student benefitting to the tune of Rs 3,000, Raghurama said, adding students also purchased books worth Rs 20,000 for the library. This initiative will be continued even this year, he said.

K Byrappa, vice-chancellor will inaugurate the festival. Manohar Prasad, chief of news bureau, Udayavani, Mangaluru will the guest of honour. P S Yadapadithaya, registrar will be the chief guest at the valedictory function on March 11. Y Muniraju, dean, faculty of commerce, and T S N Murthy, deputy general manager, Union Bank regional office, will be the guests of honour. A Raghurama will preside over both the inaugural and valedictory function.
