Introduction

Mangalore University established the “Dharmanidhi Yoga Peetha” in 1983 through a donation of Rs. 4.8 lakhs made by the Trustees of Temples of the then Dakshina Kannada district to establish three- fold activities in the field of Yoga; namely, teaching, therapy and research. On 3.12.1998, Mangalore University started the M.Sc. programme in Yogic Science for the first time in the country with the objective of training young students.  The course provides new avenues to the students to learn, practice and propagate the techniques of this ancient science. Two specializations have been introduced from 2008-09 viz., Yoga TherapyandYoga Spirituality.
