Achievements

A Botanical garden was established in the campus in 1990. The garden is spread an area about 2 hectares.

At present there are about 200 species of plants including plants endemic to Western Ghats, important medicinal plants, orchids, canes etc. These include important medicinal plants, tree species of Western Ghats and certain plants of academic importance which will be of use to students of Botany.

We also have certain plants which are extremely rare and threatened introduced to the garden in the recent years.

Students from colleges/general public frequently visit the garden and get educated on our plant wealth.

A Special lecture by Prof. Madhav Godgil of IISc - Centre for Ecological sciences, Bangalore was organized on 21-01-1999 on the topic - ‘Western Ghats – A lifescape’.

A seminar on World Environment day has been conducted under the chair on 5th June 2002.

A one day seminar was organized on “Water Conservation” on 20.08.2005. This was attended by about 107 participants. Experts spoke on various aspects of water conservation.

In 2007-08 twelve rain water harvesting pits were made spreading over the University campus.

A solar water heater was established in the University canteen to reduce electricity consumption.

In 2008-09

  • Special water harvesting structures were made to recharge the bore wells in the campus.
  • Seedlings were given to various schools for the Environmental Day programme/ for afforestation.
