Departmental activities and programs organized so far (subject associations, periodic special programs / seminars / conferences / workshops / symposia, etc.)

 

Seminars/Symposia:

  • The department has conducted a National Seminar on ‘Women and Library Services’ in 1990 sponsored by the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi.
  • The Department has organized three UGC-Refresher Courses in Library and Information Science.  
  • The Department of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University had earlier also organized workshops on Design & Development of Digital Libraries, Web Designing and Institutional Repository and a National conference on Women and Library Services.
  • Department of Library and Information Science organizes Special Lecture on 12th August, Librarians Day and also on the Occasion of National Library Week celebrations during 14-19, November on regular basis. Besides, many library and information science experts/professionals from different parts of the country are invited to deliver special lectures and talks. 
  • The Department of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University organized a two day National Level Conference on ‘Democratization of Information Using ICT: Role of Libraries for Social Enlightenment (DEMICT 2014)’ in collaboration with Karnataka State SC/ST Library Professionals Association (Regd.) Bangalore, during January 24-25, 2014. More than 300 (three hundred) delegates participated the conference.
  • National Conference on “Professionalism in library and Information Services for User Empowerment: Opportunities and Challenges (PROFUSE 2017)” April, 2017. 350 (three fifty) delegates participated the conference.

Workshops:

  • The department has conducted Workshop on “Design and Development of Digital Libraries” March, 2004.
  • The department has conducted Workshop on “Web Designing” March, 2005.
  • The department has conducted Workshop on “Institutional Repositories” March, 2008.

Prof. A.K. Baradol Endowment Lecture:

  • The Department of Library and Information Science was organized a Prof. A.K. Baradol Endowment Lecture topic, “Survival Strategies for Libraries and Librarianship in the Digital Environment”, for that respected Dr. Vijayakumar K.P., Professor & HOD (Rtd.), D.L.I.Sc., University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram being resource person for delivering the lecture on February 25, 2019 at 11.00 a.m. Venue: Old Senate Hall.

Invited Lectures:

  • The Department of Library and Information Science and Karnataka State Library Association (KALA) jointly organized a Special Lecture on the Occasion of National Library Week celebration on the Topic: ‘Internet Technology and Web Programming’ on November 18, 2006.

 

UGC Visiting Fellow:

  • Dr. Harinarayana N.S., Reader, Dept. of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Manasagangothri, Mysore, has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during March 22-31, 2010. During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
  • Dr. Ramashesh C.P., Coordinator for Dr. S.R. Radhakrishnan Centre for Philosophy and Indian Culture, Mysore, Mysore has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during February 05 to 07, 2018. During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
  • Dr. Sampath Kumar B.T., Professor, Dept. of Library and Information Science, Tumkur University, Tumkur has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during February 22 to 24, 2018. During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
  • Dr. Vijay Kumar K.P., Director, Centre for Information Literacy Studies, University of Kerala, Dept. of Lib. & Inf. Science, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 034, Kerala has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during March 05 to 09, 2018 . During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
  • Dr. Meera B.M., Librarian, Raman Research Institute, C.V. Raman Avenue Sadashivanaga, Bangalore has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during March 14 to 17, 2018. During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
  • Dr. Keshava, Professor, Dept. of Library and Information Science, Tumkur University, Tumkur has served as UGC Visiting Fellow in this department during March 24 to 28, 2018. During this period he has delivered lectures to the M.L.I.Sc. Second Semester and M.L.I.Sc. Fourth Semester.
