Vision and Mission of the Department:

The Department of Computer Science was established in 1992 to cater higher education in Master of Computer Science and applications. The Department of Computer Science has a vision and believes that Computer Science is a rapidly evolving discipline directly or indirectly affecting many other disciplines including Science and Engineering, Arts, Business, etc. It is important that the faculty can contribute to Computer Science in a way that the faculty and students can devote themselves to take the maximal advantage of modern Computer Science to solve a wide range of complex scientific, technological and social problems. The department continues promoting innovative research and education programs in the core Computer Science as well as multidisciplinary application areas. The department focus areas include Image Processing and Visual Pattern Recognition; Ontology based text mining, Data Mining & Knowledge Discovery, Advanced Computer Networks (Mobile and Wireless Communication and Wireless Sensor Networks), Grid and Cloud Computing and Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. By selecting these contemporary and still maturing areas and complement the skills of existing department faculty based on the funding and also achieving critical mass through new hires in these areas, it will have an immediate impact on the department's competitiveness for more federal funding and ability to achieve national prominence.

The mission of the Department of Computer Science is to achieve national prominence by providing outstanding education and research training to our graduate students for their productive careers in industry, academia, and government. The department strives for excellence in research, teaching and service covering the fundamental as well as applied aspects of Computer Science. The department faculty will establish nationally and internationally recognized research programs, including those of interdisciplinary nature, and actively engage the students in the research to provide broad educational and research experiences for them both in and out of the classroom. The faculty will help the students to develop their skills to solve the complex technological problems of modern society and also provide a framework for promoting collaborative and multidisciplinary activities.
