Master of Science (Computer Science) / M.Sc(Computer Science) under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS):
General Category Intake: 22 (General Category) + 03 (Extra Seats)
Partially Self Financing Scheme Intake: 40 Seats
Duration of the course: 2 Years (Four Semesters)
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed any of the following Bachelor Degrees from Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent thereto are eligible for the programme provided they have secured a minimum of 45% (40% for SC/ ST/ Category - I ) aggregate marks excluding languages and group III subjects.
B.Sc. degree with Computer Science/ Computer Applications (vocational) as optional/ major/ subsidiary subjects or B.Sc.(Hons) degree with Computer Science/ Computer Systems/ Information Science/ Information Systems or B.Sc. degree with Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Electronics / Instrumentation as optional/ major/ subsidiary along with P.G.Diploma in Computer Applications / Computer Science/ Information Technology or Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) or Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) (Integrated Course) or Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) or Bachelor of Information Science (BAS) or Bachelor of Engineering (BE) / Bachelor of Technology (BTech).
Selection of the candidate shall be on merit - cum – reservation on the basis of 50:50 weight ages for marks in the Entrance and Qualifying examinations.
Master of Computer Applications (MCA):
Intake: 60 (Government Category)
Duration of the course: 3 years( 6 semesters)
Eligibility:Admission is open to Master of Computer Applications Course (M.C.A.) for all the candidates who have passed a Bachelor Degree of Minimum 3 - Years examination or equivalent examination with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Applications or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects for all the years is eligible for MCA course, 45% marks in Qualifying Examination (Q.E.) in case of SC, ST and Category - I candidates.
Provided in respect of candidate who has studied and passed one of the subjects specified above in Pre - University Courses with fifty percent of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission, 45% of marks in Qualifying Examination (Q.E), in case of SC, ST and Category - I candidates.
Not only a candidate who has passed the qualifying examination (Q.E.) with requisite marks but also a student who has appeared for the Q.E. and who is expecting the results is also eligible to apply for the Common Entrance Test.
MCA course seat selection based on merit rank list through PGCET examination, conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority. Govt. of Karnataka, Bangalore.
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil):
This program has started from the academic year 2008-09.
Intake:One candidate per guide.
Duration:12 months for full time candidates and 18 months for part time candidates.
Eligibility for admission:A candidate holding master’s degree of this University or a Master’s degree of any other University recognized by this University as equivalent to thereto with a minimum of 55%(50% in the case of SC/ST) or an equivalent grade shall be eligible for admission to the programme. Candidates holding masters degree in a related filed, as may be decided by the department of studies may also be considered for admission.
There shall be entrance test to the M.Phil programme. The List of candidates shall be prepared on the basics of the performance of the candidates in the entrance test and their marks in the qualifying examinations. Each getting an equal weightage.
The candidate shall enroll either on part time or full time basis.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D):
This research programme in Computer Science was started in the year 2003-04, at present three guides have been recognized in the specialization areas of Data Mining & Knowledge Discovery, Advanced Computer Networks (Mobile & Wireless Communication and Wireless Sensor Networks) and Grid & Cloud Computing, Image Processing & Pattern Reorganization around 11 – Candidates are working under the respective research area of specializations. All domains having their own Financial Support for successful completion and meet the objectives of the research work from the Govt. funding agencies like UGC, DST. Remaining 13 – vacancy seats admission is under process according to meet the norms of UGC. Department has got around Rs.44,30,280/- research grants from UGC and DST funding agency.
