About the M.Sc. Biochemistry Programme
The M.Sc. Biochemistry Programme was introduced in the year 2014 at the Mangalagangothri campus of Mangalore University to cater to the needs of students of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts in particular, and other parts of the country in general. The programme content is designed to cover all aspects of Biochemistry including practical orientation for various biochemical methods. An exhaustive hands-on training and sound theoretical background are intended to make the student an appropriate candidate to not only take up either teaching or pursuing doctoral research but also competent enough to work in pharmaceutical R&D and diagnostic labs, agricultural research institutions, and various medical and allied institutions and industries. The programme has experienced faculty members and good laboratory facilities. The students who have successfully completed the course have been working in various capacities in research institutions, biotech industries, and universities.
- • M. Sc. Biochemistry is a two years course with practical hands on experience of laboratory techniques. This course gives a detailed way of knowledge from basic science to applied techniques. The curriculum framed by well-experienced Biochemistry, Biotechnology and, other life science experts.
- • The course aims for vast study of molecular biology.
- • Students will be exposed to either industry or diagnostic laboratories through the summer research project.
- • A minor research project will be carried out at the department during IV Semester with the submission of the dissertation.

Eligibility for all the programs
Candidates who have passed three year B.Sc. Degree examination of Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent there to with Chemistry/Biochemistry as optional/major/special subjects with minimum of 45%(40% for SC/ST/Category-I candidates) marks are eligible for the programme provided they have studied biology/biological science subject as optional /major /special /minor /subsidiary subject either at B.Sc. or at PUC/Higher secondary level.
